Kids Like You, Kids Like Me

For anyone near the Chattanooga area, the Creative Discovery Museum has a really neat exhibit right now. Kids Like You, Kids Like Me has the theme "A Day in the Life of a Child with a Disability," and really stresses how all kids are more alike than they are different. Your kids will have the chance to do all sorts of activities with different "disabilities." It's a GREAT way to break the ice and talk to your kids about children with disabilities, and teach them that we're all very much alike!

I know....I know...I don't have kids! But, I feel really strongly about this because my mom was a pediatric PT, and I have ALWAYS been around kids with disabilities (you know, before the days of HIPAA, I would go to work with her and "play" with her patients as she did therapy). When I went to school, I stood up for those kids (ahem...and got many checkmarks by my name and sidewalk sits during recess for bullying the bullies who were picking on my friends with disabilities...ahem). I never saw them as weird just because they had to do things a little differently than I did. I hope I can teach my kids that same thing one day.

So, if you live anywhere around here...GO!

The exhibit is open from October 10, 2009 through November 8, 2009. For more info on the Creative Discovery Museum, you can go to their website at www.cdmfun.org.

A little teaser...

We've been busy lately, so once again, I've been a blog slacker. But, I promise I'll be better! I've gotten some really good pics (okay, not professional, but good for me) from all our happenings, so I'll post them once I make the time. For now, here's a little teaser...

Guess who I met Sunday night?!

Um, yeah, that's Trace Adkins. We were on the sidelines before the Titans game, and he happened to be singing the national anthem...and standing a few feet away from me before that! ;) I was sooooo excited!

PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned (or something like that)

As we've been attempting to get our house back in order, we seem to clean up one thing, then make a bigger mess out of another. I suppose that's the way it goes! When we were going through random old boxes today (ones that I'm pretty sure neither one of us had opened since we've been married), Josh found something that made me laugh almost uncontrollably.

Apparently, when he was in high school, he and his friends would steal (he says it's not stealing) the forms that teachers would write you up on when you got in trouble. They would write each other up and write all sorts of randomness. Take a look at the one we found. I've blurred out names to protect the (not so) innocent. And yes, that is Josh's handwriting.

You may have to click on the picture to make it bigger so you can read his writing at the bottom. I promise it will be worth it.

Baby Waylon

No! Not my baby, another sweet nephew for Aunt Leslie and Uncle Josh! Big brother Lincoln is so proud (and so stinkin' cute!). Here a few pics from our weekend (um...that would be the second weekend in August...we're only a little behind!)

We hung out with Grammy and Gramps (and Lincoln!) as Travis and Rhoda were bringing Baby Waylon home and getting settled. Vicki (my MIL) is obsessed with cleaning, and she has rubbed off on Lincoln. See how excited he is to be holding this broom?

Lincoln and Sophie watching Josh pace back and forth on the back deck when he was on the phone.

Clinging tight to Uncle Josh...this is the look I usually get from him when he's with his Uncle Josh. :)

Finally we were ready to take Lincoln back home to his mommy and daddy, so we could see the sweet baby!

Lincoln thinking, "What is going on? Why are you not paying attention to me?"

Baby feet!

Sweet boy (he looks just like Rhoda's dad...I call him "Little Marshall")

Welcome to the world, little Waylon...you have no idea what you're in for! :)

I thought I was your fantasy?!

I just wanted to point out a new website I came across. I think I'm ordering one of the t-shirts. :)

Women Against Fantasy Sports

I hear from my husband, "I hope Eli Manning gets killed today."

"Why?"

"Because my fantasy team is playing against him."

"And if your fantasy team WASN'T playing against him?"

"Well, I wouldn't really care either way."

Wha? Sorry, honey, I just can't say that your logic makes any sense to me at all!

Oops

Well, it's no secret that the vast majority of our time lately has been consumed by this remodel. Thank heavens the worst of it is over! At some point I'll do a Before/After post, but that means things need to go back to their rightful place and pictures need to go back on the walls for the after photos. So, um, it'll be a while.

But, here's a teaser...

We took down all our doors, painted them white, and replaced the old rusty brass hardware with new brushed nickel hardware. My job (among others) was to label the doors and make sure they got put back in the correct place after the fact. In theory, that's easy. And if I had labeled the doors on the bottom as I originally wanted to, instead of in the area where we took the door lock off (ahem, as Josh suggested, ahem) it would have been no problem.

Alas, I labeled the doors in the area where we took the door lock off. I may or may not have subsequently painted over said labels when I was rolling the doors. I told Josh that I still knew which ones were which, but as you can see below...that was not (exactly) the case.

Here's the guest bath door upstairs...

Looks good, huh? Oh, wait, is that a gap?

Um...yeah.

The best part is that neither one of us had a clue about that 4 inch difference until all the hinges were screwed in. I was in a different room, and Josh yells, "Hey, honey, you might want to come check this out."

All I could do was laugh (and take a few pics for the blog, of course). You'll be happy to know that the BASEMENT BATHROOM door is now back in it's rightful place, as is the upstairs hall bathroom door. So, as I mentioned on facebook a week or so ago, you can pee in private at my house now. You're welcome in advance. ;)

New blog!

A friend of mine recently started a food blog as part of a college class assignment. Her first recipe is looking pretty tasty to me! So, go check out her blog and leave her some love!

Melissa's "Truly Epicurious"

p.s. I LOVE the title, don't you? :)
